The West Toronto Renegades were established in 2015, we are a Minor Hockey Club in the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL). Prior to the 2015-16 season, the Renegades were known as the Downsview Beavers, the Rep Hockey Association of the Downsview Hockey Club (DHC). DHC has served the community for 58 years supporting minor hockey with successful House League, NYHL and GTHL programs.
Downsview is an area in the north end of Toronto, originally farmland located in the 1870s near the present-day location of Downsview Arena. The area includes several large post-WWII subdivisions, and like Canada there is a highly diverse demographic and strong work ethic culture.
The club's mission is to create a hockey program focused on fostering work ethic, sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork and respect. Demonstrating our core values at all team events, inspiring players to advocate these values and develop into responsible young adults, contributing to the community.
West Toronto has teams participating in the GTHL 'A' division. Each team will be required to participate in one club Community Service Event, and one team Community Service Event. The purpose of these activities is to develop our players’ knowledge of community needs outside of the on ice environment. Failure to fulfill team volunteer duties may result in a team fine as determined by the General Manager. Students who are age eligible, wanting to acquire community service time are welcome and encouraged to volunteer for Renegade activities.
The club is directed by its Executives, compromised of the President, General Manager, and its directors. The General Manager is responsible for all GTHL matters as they pertain to the day to day hockey operations of the club and its teams.
Executives of the West Toronto are volunteers, as such there is no stipend or financial remuneration for their duties, other than their legitimate expenses incurred in the fulfillment of their duties.
